Sanitizing Your Restaurant

When I started working at my uncle's restaurant, I knew that there were a few things I needed to adjust. First and foremost, I decided to start working on cleaning things up. It had been quite awhile since the place had been cleaned thoroughly, so I focused on sanitation and garbage removal. I hired a trash removal company to come in and remove old equipment, and then we worked on taking special care to deep clean all of the different appliances. It was amazing to see how big of a difference we were able to make. This blog is all about sanitizing your restaurant.

Drain Clogged? Try These Tips 'Til The Plumber Arrives

Blog

If you have ever experienced a serious drain clog, then you know the inconvenience it can cause. These occurrences always seem to happen at the worst time, either in the middle of cooking dinner or when you are expecting guests. If you have a stubborn clog on your hands, it is probably time to call a plumber for a thorough drain-cleaning to prevent future issues.

Some tips to try before the plumber shows-up include:

Put away the chemicals. It may seem normal to use a chemical solvent to try and melt-away the clog, but these products can be very harsh and even damaging to your plumbing lines and pipes. Use chemicals only as a last-resort, when clogs are stubborn or drains are slow. Using too much of these solutions could end up doing more harm than good.

Invest in a plumbers' snake. A great tool to have on hand is a plumbers' snake. Forget bending and unbending a coat hanger to attempt to fish-out a clog. Instead, buy the adjustable, flexible snake that a plumber uses at a hardware or home improvement store. These are not expensive items to purchase.

Heat some water. Another tactic to try is to pour boiling water down the drains. This will often loosen and melt any clogs or debris that are blocking the line. This is also a practical approach to preventing sludge from accumulating in the pipes, which can lead to a problem. Be sure not to use boiling water on delicate porcelain fixtures, like your toilet, as the temperature may cause it to crack.

Use some pantry items. A great pipe-friendly solution to use when your sink is clogged or draining slowly is to combine equal parts of baking soda and vinegar. Mix this and pour down into the clogged drain; add small amounts of hot water and listen for the sizzling-sound that indicates it is working. Continue this process until the drain runs smoothly.

Be careful when you plunge. Plunging can be effective at moving the clog and often pushes it through the pipes. Do not attempt to plunge your drains after adding any kind of chemical as it can splash back and burn your eyes and skin.

A clogged drain can wreak havoc on your daily routine and life, so be sure to resolve the issue with scheduled drain cleanings from your plumber. Avoid using harsh chemicals on your delicate plumbing pipes, and invest in a few simple supplies to help remedy the situation and get your drains working properly.
